6 Ways To Get Rid Of Severe Period Pain Or Menstrual Cramps

Hormonal fluctuation is considered as the primary cause of severe period pain which is also know as menstrual cramps. During the course of menstruation, high amounts of prostaglandins are released in the body to facilitate uterine wall contraction. This is necessary for the shedding of the inner lining within the uterus. In case the contraction is lesser, women tend to experience slight discomfort. However, in case the contraction last longer, severe pain can be experienced and this can be aggravated when the supply of blood towards the uterus is affected by excessive contractions, thus affecting the supply of oxygen and aggravates the pain. Other factors causing severe period pain include stress, cigarette smoking and depression.
