Having a doctor look over you might sound a little extreme, but it’s absolutely important to handle things quickly. Serious symptoms call for serious medical care — it could be the sign of something much more major than just simple indigestion.

More Serious Signs of Abdominal Swelling

When you have serious symptoms you will want to seek immediate medical care — even if you have to call 911. If you have dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath or yellowing of the skin you could have critical problems that could literally take your life — don’t leave such things to chance!

Treatment of Abdominal Swelling

There’s no point in getting worked up about abdominal swelling if you don’t know how to treat it properly. There are a few different treatments for abdominal swelling but they all depend on the situation itself.

For example, if you have excessive gas or constipation or even diarrhea, you can turn to over the counter medications for this.

However, if there is severe swelling because there is fluid trapped inside the abdomen, your doctor will have to drain away that fluid. That is really not something that you can do on your own.

You will need to make sure that you focus on the bigger picture — sure, you probably don’t want to get stuck with a needle, but this fluid can really make you sick!

If the root of the issue is actually an obstruction in the small or large intestine, you will most likely need to get surgery to remove the obstruction. It’s not just something that’s going to go away on its own.

If you want to try to handle it with home based methods, you will need to rest. The body is always in motion, and modern day society’s hectic lifestyle just doesn’t allow you to get as much rest as you probably need.

Along with rest, a clear liquid diet can give your body time to focus more on healing than on digestion.
